Feeling sad. @ 03:01 pm

Current Location: same old place
Current Mood: sad sad

I'm feeling rather sad today.

My niece is getting married in Norfolk in a couple of weeks and I've been really looking forward to it.  I had the hotel booked and paid for in  mid June and have been counting the weeks ever since.

But, now, John is in the middle of a long drawn out series of hospital tests and has been told he mustn't drive.  There's no way I can drive to Norfolk and back without someone else driving too, so I've had to cancel my hotel booking and write to the bride's mother saying that we can't come.  It would be too difficult to go by train from Newcastle, especially as I would have to take my disability scooter with me.

I can't remember the last time I've looked forward to something so much, or the last time I've been so disappointed.

I'm wondering now whether I shall be able to get any kind of refund for the hotel, as the phone number is, ominously, not taking incoming calls.

Oh well !!

I ought to have known I wouldn't have the lovely weekend I've been looking forward to.

I'm really sorry to hear this.
Is there any chance one the relatives could come and pick you up?
Hugs to you and get well wishes to your John.

Sadly we are about three hundred miles north of any family who would be going. I shall just have to grin and bear it.

Is there not a relative or friend who would be willing to drive you? I wish I were there and I would take you! I am so sorry that things are turning out that way. I hope and pray something will change so that you can go before it's too late. *hugs*

Sadly any of our relatives who are going are about 300 miles away.

I expect I shall survive the disappointment.

Oh, that's such a shame. If you can't get hold of the hotel, is there anyone else attending who could use the reservation? Or, can anyone locally go round and cancel for you. Or, have you checked their contact details to see if they've changed the number? I don't suppose you have travel insurance, or if you paid for it on your credit card, you may be able to claim there if you can provide evidence of John's medical condition.

I've written to them today. If that fails, I shall contact Mastercard and see what they can do for me.

Yes, it's a nuisance all right, spoiling our fun and all, but I'm anxious for them to find out what is wrong with John and fix it, so I shall just have to put up with it.

I'm sorry to hear of this. Firstly, get well soon wishes for John.

Secondly, if nothing can be pulled out of the hat to get you to the wedding, I hope at least that you will be able to get a refund from the hotel, or that someone else can use the booking.

Thanks Andrew. John doesn't actually feel ill at all, he simply has a condition which causes him to faint occasionally, although he's only ever done so when getting out of bed.

I'm sure the hotel will be able to refund at least some of my money. They may well have a waiting list of clients just waiting for someone to cancel their booking.
